Week 5

Last week, I worked on finalizing a lot on my Greenway Story. I was able to interview Andrew Edmonds and he gave me a lot of information about the trails and the future of the trails. He also discussed a lot on the Elm Street Project. This project will be done by 2028 and a way for High Point residents to travel with more safety throughout all of High Point. The vision for this plan will be primarily as a way to get to and from work and stores.

As I finish up this week with the end of the story I will be beginning to plan my interviews for my next story on second- hand fashion. Dr. Victoria Brown is a professor for the fashion program here at High Point University and has been heavily involved in sustainability and fashion. I also hope to visit a lot of the second hand stores in preparation to review prices in the area and what a standard price would be for shoppers.

This past week different news outlets have been covering second hand shopping and how individual stores are beginning to promote shopping more sustainably. This is a way to both save the environment and save in prices. I would also like to interview stores in the area that are not second hand stores but learn how they stay sustainable.

Week 4

This past week I was very excited to meet with Lee Tillery the project manager of the Greenway. Unfortunately, he had to cancel last minute due to an emergency. We are not planning to meet on Wednesday. I have also reached out to two different Steering Committee members incase this does not follow through and if it does I will have a few more interviews to add to my story since the Steering Committee is a big part of the Greenway Plan.

On Thursday I still took the time to go to the Greenway and got to interview a woman walking her dog and a man who turned out to be a volunteer who comes to clean up the river. and another woman just going on a stroll. The time of day I went was not very busy and I will be going back. I did learn that the trail is much more accessible than I had thought.

I have decided to do my story through shorthand and use photography and sound bites to add to my story. My goal is to make it feel like you are roaming through the trail on your own.

Week 3- Greenway Plan

The Greenway Plan is a set of trails set up across the triad for a greener way of transportation. There are trails both within the woods and sidewalks that range the perimeter.

For my story I want to focus on the benefits that come with taking advantage of the Greenway Plan. I also want to target an audience that this would not usually go to. A lot of times the individuals that travel utilizing the Greenways are people who already have a passion for the environment and for nature walks in general. I want to spread this to a new audience.

As a way in the path the Trails were advertised to the community back in May that 2023 was the Year of the Trail. This was an attempt to spread more awareness of the trails and increase foot traffic.

I have been in contact with Lee Tillery. He is the project manager. I will be interviewing him, I am waiting on a final day and time that works for him. I will also be going there this Thursday to take photos for my multimedia story and I will also be interviewing people while I am there. I want to get participant stories on why they use the Greenway and what benefits they've found.

Some benefits that are highlighted in the plan are health benefits, experiencing wildlife and educating on it, receiving fresh air on a regular basis, cost effectiveness, and community building just to name a few.

Week 2

This past week I have done extensive research on the High Point communities transportation and the Greenway Plan. For my first story I plan on introducing the Greenways to the public for environmentally friendly transportation options. The Greenway Plan is a set of trails all throughout the triad spanning 4 miles of each town. This creates healthy alternatives to traveling. The project manger, Lee Tillery has set up this plan as a sustainable way to travel.

I have emailed him explaining the story I am working on and asked a good time to set up a phone call to discuss some features of the park. When I first called the phone went to voicemail. If I do not hear back by Tuesday I do plan on giving him another call.

I heard back from Bekah from the Greensboro Science Center and we are still trying to pick a date and time to meet. In this interview I was hoping to learn more about forecasting the trajectory of the environment and why it is important to start living sustainably now to prevent future issues within the environment. I was also hoping to be set up with other departments within the Science Center in order to have contacts for future stories within this class.

Week 11

For my next story I am doing it on getting rid of pumpkins after the holidays. There are a few events going on this Saturday 11/18 that I w...
