Week 11

For my next story I am doing it on getting rid of pumpkins after the holidays. There are a few events going on this Saturday 11/18 that I would be able to get good B-Roll and interviews.

The first event is about holiday waste as a whole. This event is through GSO Goes Green and it is an information session about producing less waste during the holiday season.

The next event is a little later in the day and it is a pumpkin drop off. There is also an information session to teach how to compost.

Pumpkins as a whole produce toxic wastes and so it is important to up-cycle them into compost.

Week 10

This past week I worked on my story for Wednesday. I went to the mall and filmed for the multimedia aspect of my story. I will be finishing up my footage today at the thrift store to find items that will equal the price of the jeans I found at the mall. I also worked on separating my story into sections and fined tuned it.

I have started thinking about my next story but I am unsure of the route I want to go. I was thinking about farmers markets. I also saw news on what to do with your pumpkin after it dies and I think that would make for a good story.

This week I will work to finish my story and narrow down what I would like my next one to be that will be appealing for a broadcast story.

Week 7

For my story next story I have decided to do a Wakelet story. Since High Point Furniture Market just ended, I have chosen to do my story on decorating a home using all sustainable and recycled furniture. The average person spends about $8,000 on a one bedroom apartment. For my story I plan on breaking down each room of the apartment and giving sustainable and cost effective furniture.

Over break, I went home to New York. On the way back from my trip I spent a lot of time looking at the different billboards around Northern North Carolina. I thought it was very interesting and related to my last story, but there were about 4 different billboards highlighting the year of the trails.

While looking at different news going on right now I have seen a lot about daylight saving and the effects it has on health. I think this would make for an interesting story in seeing its effects in North Carolina.

Week 6

This past week I have collected and done research concerning my next story. I have reached out to sources in the fashion department and we are figuring out a day before break the we can do an interview. I am still deciding, however; if I would like to do broadcast or multimedia for this next story.

I am also paying attention to High Point Furniture Market that is coming up soon. For this they are using much more sustainable materials in their designs for 2023. This includes bamboo and recycled materials. I think a story about this would be a great one to work on. I do think a good story idea for this would be how implementing more sustainable materials effected Market this year. I believe it would be a good post furniture market story.

This next week I will continue doing research on both second hand shopping and Furniture Market but I will also construct questions I can ask for the interviews.

Week 5

Last week, I worked on finalizing a lot on my Greenway Story. I was able to interview Andrew Edmonds and he gave me a lot of information about the trails and the future of the trails. He also discussed a lot on the Elm Street Project. This project will be done by 2028 and a way for High Point residents to travel with more safety throughout all of High Point. The vision for this plan will be primarily as a way to get to and from work and stores.

As I finish up this week with the end of the story I will be beginning to plan my interviews for my next story on second- hand fashion. Dr. Victoria Brown is a professor for the fashion program here at High Point University and has been heavily involved in sustainability and fashion. I also hope to visit a lot of the second hand stores in preparation to review prices in the area and what a standard price would be for shoppers.

This past week different news outlets have been covering second hand shopping and how individual stores are beginning to promote shopping more sustainably. This is a way to both save the environment and save in prices. I would also like to interview stores in the area that are not second hand stores but learn how they stay sustainable.

Week 4

This past week I was very excited to meet with Lee Tillery the project manager of the Greenway. Unfortunately, he had to cancel last minute due to an emergency. We are not planning to meet on Wednesday. I have also reached out to two different Steering Committee members incase this does not follow through and if it does I will have a few more interviews to add to my story since the Steering Committee is a big part of the Greenway Plan.

On Thursday I still took the time to go to the Greenway and got to interview a woman walking her dog and a man who turned out to be a volunteer who comes to clean up the river. and another woman just going on a stroll. The time of day I went was not very busy and I will be going back. I did learn that the trail is much more accessible than I had thought.

I have decided to do my story through shorthand and use photography and sound bites to add to my story. My goal is to make it feel like you are roaming through the trail on your own.

Week 3- Greenway Plan

The Greenway Plan is a set of trails set up across the triad for a greener way of transportation. There are trails both within the woods and sidewalks that range the perimeter.

For my story I want to focus on the benefits that come with taking advantage of the Greenway Plan. I also want to target an audience that this would not usually go to. A lot of times the individuals that travel utilizing the Greenways are people who already have a passion for the environment and for nature walks in general. I want to spread this to a new audience.

As a way in the path the Trails were advertised to the community back in May that 2023 was the Year of the Trail. This was an attempt to spread more awareness of the trails and increase foot traffic.

I have been in contact with Lee Tillery. He is the project manager. I will be interviewing him, I am waiting on a final day and time that works for him. I will also be going there this Thursday to take photos for my multimedia story and I will also be interviewing people while I am there. I want to get participant stories on why they use the Greenway and what benefits they've found.

Some benefits that are highlighted in the plan are health benefits, experiencing wildlife and educating on it, receiving fresh air on a regular basis, cost effectiveness, and community building just to name a few.
